Tradition

(“the transmission of customs or beliefs from generation to generation, or the fact of being passed on in this way.”)

Concord-Carlisle High School Football has tradition and lots of it.  Going into the 2016 season the CCHS Patriots were one of 19 Massachusetts high school programs with at least 500 wins.  Ahead of them on the list are long time powerhouses such as Brockton (#1 win 793 wins) and Everett (#2 with 785 wins) but C-C is 16th all time with a record of 577-490-68.  That is a lot of good coaching, good playing, and good support from all involved over a long period of time.

Some of those steeped in that tradition are in this picture snapped seconds before kick off Friday Night. You all recognize Hall of Fame Coach Al Robichaud on the left, sitting front and center at the 50 yard line like he always does for home games.  Coach Al Robichaud was responsible for a lot of those 577 wins when he manned the sidelines from 1972 until 1990.  The good looking man next to him is his son Dave who is also easily recognizable as a 4-time Emmy award winning journalist at WBZ-TV in Boston.  Before the esteemed journalism career though came a stint as a Concord-Carlisle Patriot football player including a memorable year on the 1978 Super Bowl winning team. Dave had the honor of playing for his dad, as did his brothers Jeff and Mike. Sons playing for dads as coaches in high school football is a tradition, just like marching bands and halftime shows.

It is tradition in high school football for alumni to come back and watch the games.  Some of those alumni are fresh out of high school and college students but they travel far to come back to support their high school team.  I saw them there Friday night.  They are part of the tradition at CCHS.

There will be no preview/review of the next opponent for CCHS.  As much as I respect Wayland High football I think the players for C-C will be looking to rebound and make a mark for themselves in the tradition of Concord-Carlisle High School football.

WAYLAND WHITE OUT!  Show your fan spirit and wear white on Friday night!  The first 100 CCHS students to the game will receive a free Football Fan Shirt!
